Biomonitoring or biological monitoring is the use of living organisms as indicators of the health of an ecosystem. Biological monitoring techniques can be used to assess the overall health and quantify the impacts on aquatic systems. Biological indicators commonly used are, macroinvertebrates, fish and riparian vegetation.
